How to install and use TripLibre for iOS, how it turns GPS into a travel diary, what its data looks like, and how to build on it. For why TripLibre exists and where it is going, see the Vision and Roadmap.

What TripLibre is

TripLibre is a free, open-source iOS app that records where you go, rebuilds each day into visits, trips and travel modes, and keeps all of it on your phone. Think of it as a household travel survey that fills itself in, with a sample size of one. It has no account and no server, and exports to CSV, JSON, GeoJSON and SQLite.

TripLibre was called HHT until October 2026. It is the first product of HHT Diary, the organization behind this site. The code keeps HHT in its names (HHTCore, HHT.xcodeproj, analysis/hht.py) and its bundle ID, so installing over an older HHT build keeps your data.

TripLibre is not on the App Store yet. You build it from source with Xcode and install it on your own phone. With a free Apple ID the install lasts 7 days and you renew it with one command, and your data is kept between installs. See Installation.
